We made our big move from Utah to Missouri at the beginning of August. We closed on our house in Utah 5 days after we moved. It was so nice to be able to stay in it right up to moving time.
We really like it in Missouri. We live right across the street from someone that I grew up with. It is so nice to have someone we know so close. Lisa and I are both stay at home mom's so we switch out babysitting so we can get small errands done during the day. Andrew calls Jacob his best friend. The sad thing is that they will only be here through the summer.
I am excited to be only a 12 hour drive from my family now. We get to go see them at Thanksgiving. We have been so far a way that Thanksgiving was usually spent at home. We also get to visit Stephen's family at Christmas. I am so excited!
Columbia is a really family friendly town. There are a lot of fun things for families to do. The library here is great! Andrew and Ali love it! And there are no late fees. We went to St. Louis when Brittney (my sister) came to visit. St. Louis is about 1 1/2 hours from us. We went to the zoo there, and it was FREE. It is one of the best zoo's I have ever been to. We didn't even get to see it all.

We also got to go to a Mizzou game a few weeks ago, thanks to one of Stephen's generous professors. We went to Wal-mart to buy some Mizzou gear so we could look like real fans. I was feeling kind of bad for wearing the Missouri colors when Tech was playing the same day. It kind of felt like I was cheating on Tech. By the end of the game I felt like I could be a Missouri fan too, but only if they aren't playing Tech. Andrew even started yelling "M-I-Z-Z-O-U". It was a lot of fun! The kids did so well that we stayed for the whole game. They like to watch "touchdowns".

On a side note Andrew and Ali are peddling now, and Andrew is potty trained. Yeah! He finally started telling me when he needs to go potty.
Stephen is very busy with school. It stays up late at school a few nights a week, and goes half a day on Saturday. He is really enjoying it though.

Andrew and Ali at the game.

Getting ready for church

At the zoo

I Did it to My Mom

Since my last blog was "My Mom Did it to Me", I thought I would post what I did to her when I was a kid. Recently Ali has been using the excuse "I'm scarey" so she won't have to go to bed. The only way she will go to sleep is if I go in there and talk to her or lay down on the floor. That is not the worst part though. She somehow ends up in our bed in the middle of the night. This has got to stop. I can't get any sleep. I figure I am getting payback now for everything I did to my parents when I was little. I remember yelling from my room in the middle of the night saying that I was scared. I ended up in their bed a lot too. They were smart and put I sleeping bag by their bed. Maybe that is what we need to do until she gets out of this phase. If you have any suggestions send them our way.

My Mom Did it to Me

This is me after a night with rollers.

I have wanted to try this for a few weeks, and I finally got around to buying some. Last Saturday night I rolled Ali's hair in sponge rollers. I thought that she would probably take them out during the night, but they were all in when she woke up. I have before and after pictures. I think that the rollers I used were a little too small. Her hair was really curly. Trial and error I guess. I remember hating it when I had to sleep in sponge rollers and from all the pictures I can find of myself it looks like I did often. I am doing the same thing to my little girl. I guess she has to learn now..........pain=beauty. P.S. We have been really busy showing our house and making preperations for moving. Anyway.............. I just had to share this story.

On Saturday Stephen and I thought we would try to be productive and pack a few boxes. We told the kids to go downstairs and play. While we were upstairs I said, "Stephen something smells." A few minutes later Stephen went downstairs to check on the kids. He yelled up to me, "Get down here now!" Andrew had pooped in his underwear. Then he decided to take the soiled underwear off. That wouldn't have been so bad, but they decided to drive cars threw the poop. It was all over the carpet. To make matters worse someone was coming to see our house later that day. I thought I was going to lose it! Luckily it was naptime, and we put them both down for a nap so that we could clean. I am so grateful that we have a carpet cleaner. I don't know what we would have done without it. We did get it clean in time for the showing, and our house didn't smell like poop either.

P.S. I didn't feel the need to share any pictures.

Mizzou and the Zoo

On Monday Stephen accepted admission to go the the University of Missouri in Columbia. He will be pursuing his PhD in Marketing. We are very excited! We will only be 10 hours from Tyler now. Compared to the 24 hours it takes to get to Tyler now it sounds like a breeze. I have wanted to get closer to my family because both of my parents are not in good health. Before we accepted an offer from Missouri we took a road trip there as a family. I wanted to see what the town was like first before we said we were coming. The town is about 100,000 people, and you don't have to commute which is a huge plus. Anywhere we live in the city, Stephen will be able to get to school in about 15 minutes. Right now we live close to an hour away from Stephen's work. On our way down to Missouri we got to see Stephen's Uncle Bill and Aunt Ivonne. It was great to see them. They were so nice to let us stay there a night with 2 toddlers. We will be about 2 hours from them when we move.

We also went to the zoo a few weeks ago. It was a lot of fun. I love that the kids can tell me all the animals this year. When we ask them what a giraffe has, they say a long neck. When we ask what does an elephant have, they say a long nose. We didn't even use the stroller. They held our hands the whole time. Of course, we had to threaten them that we would have to leave if they didn't hold our hands. They are getting so big. Andrew is going to be 3 on the 13th, and I can't believe it.

I will post pictures later.

What a Beautiful Day!

The temperature was almost 60 degrees today and the sun was shining. We took the kids to a nature park to see the ducks and go on a walk after church. They had so much fun. Last year we pushed them in a stroller at this park, and this year they don't even want to hold our hands. We were at the park for about an hour, and the kids ran the whole time. They went to bed without any problems tonight.

Sunday Mornings

Since Ali's hair is getting longer I decided it was time to purchase a curling iron. It was a lot of fun. There are all kinds of little exhibits for kids. Andrew loved the table train set. They liked the Nemo fish, planting garden, dinosuars, reading books, the big fire truck, playing music, the "Kung Fu Panda Bear"(every panda bear they see is Kung Fu Panda), and just running around. It was nice to get out of the house. Andrew, Ali, and I pretty much stay at home all the time. It took us a month to use our last tank of gas. So it was a real treat to get out. I forgot to bring the camera so here are some pictures from my phone. They are really blurry because the kids were moving so fast.

Fun at the Mall

Since we are hibernating in our house for the winter, one of the only places we can go is the mall. I didn't remember hearing that when we were visiting my family. I'm sure that they heard y'all a whole lot, but no one ever says "yee-haw." I finally figured out the other day were they heard it. We drove to Texas to see the Stegall Clan for Christmas. I was prepared for a long trip with two 2 year olds, but they did really well. They only got out of the van when we ate. The weather was good, too. We were afraid that is might snow while we were traveling. The weather in Texas was great. We even got to wear short sleeve shirts for a few of the days.

We had a lot of fun getting to see everyone. The kids had fun staying at Nana and Papa's house. Everytime we wanted Andrew to take a bath or get his diaper changed he would say, "I wanna go see Papa." This the first Christmas that the kids could open their own gifts and get more excited about their toys. It was so much fun on Christmas morning to watch them open their gifts. We got to go to a place called Texas Pizza while we there. There was a huge play area.

Ali and Cousin Madison riding the horses

Andrew liked playing Crazy Taxi with Daddy

Stacy (sister in law), Brittney (sister), Whitney (sister), Ashley, Korie (sister in law), Mom

Cory (brother in law), Ken (brother), Ronnie (brother), Baby Luke, Dad, and Stephen

Andrew and Ali with their cousins

Christmas Morning- Andrew loved his race track

Ali had to take her PJ's off right away to put on the boots that Yaya got her.

Ali and Andrew on Christmas morning.

Ali also had a birthday while we were gone. My friend and her two boys went with us, and her husband got on the train half way there.

Andrew loved riding on the train. He was so excited to look out the window. He kept saying, "Mom, Mom, Mom, the choo choo train is going so fast." He was sad when we got off the train. Luckily we got to get on the Trax in SLC so he was really excited about that. Andrew and Ali loved the lights. They pointed at the lights and said "Christmas Lights, Christmas Lights." We all had a lot of fun.

Last weekend, we took the kids to a house with lights set to music. The kids loved it. They especially loved the choo choo train in the yard. We let them get out of their carseats to look at the lights and stand up in the van. While they were watching them, Ali walked over to me and could barely get the word out because she was so excited and said, "Fun, Fun." It really makes you feel good when you are doing something the kids think is fun.

"A perm?" I decided to get a perm on Saturday. I was ready for a change. I guess I am flashing back to the 80's. I really like it, and I will try to post some pics later.

Thank you, Mommy.

One of my favorite things is when I give something to Andrew like his food or juice and he says, "Thank you, Mommy. You is so nice." It just makes my heart melt. He is so sweet. It is so much fun to hear him talking. One of his favorite things to say is "It is so scary." Sometimes I can't understand what he is saying and he repeats it over and over and looks at me like I should be getting it. Most of the time I do finally figure it out, and we are both happy. Ali has picked up on a lot more words lately since Andrew is talking so much. I am impressed that they can both say dinosaur and elephant. Ali's variation of "Thank you, Mommy. You is so nice." is "Mommy so nice." She is such a sweet little girl. She is the little mommy. She loves taking care of her babies and "Andrew." She even tries to help me change his diaper. We did want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas this year and let you all know that we are thinking about you. We miss everyone, and we wish we could see all of you at Christmas. Stephen and I were just talking last night about how the holidays makes us homesick for Texas. I feel like I am about to cry just thinking about it. We love all of you. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

I also wanted to tell everyone that we had a great Thanksgiving. We had our neighbors, the Mills, over. It was so much fun. It was hard going every Monday night since Stephen has class on other nights during the week. Sally is doing really well, and she will sit most of the time. I can't believe how much she has calmed down since we started the class. She will even stay on her bed sometimes, and she will sit and let Ali pet her. Ali was really afraid of Sally when we first got her, but now Ali gives Sally hugs and loves to pet her. Andrew loves to tease Sally by running past her when she is on the leash. Sally gets really excited when he does that. I think Sally and Andrew will be really good friends when Andrew gets a little bigger.

Potty Triumph

I have been trying for about a month to potty train Ali. She will be 2 on December 28th. I taught her with a doll that will go potty. It seemed like she just couldn't figure out how to relax her bladder to go. But this weekend it seemed to just "click." She woke up dry Saturday morning after about 11 hours of sleep. She went on the potty then. She got so excited that she stood up before she finished and she wanted to empty it out. Then she sat down and went potty some more. She had one accident that whole day, and she was very excited about wearing her big girl "Elmo" panties.

"Go on Mission"

Last night we were doing our bedtime routine with singing songs and saying our prayers. The last few weeks the sentences have just started coming. We have been singing 'I Hope They Call Me on a Mission' for a while, and were excited to see he is remembering the songs we sing. We thought it was really cute.

Ali looks so cute when we say our prayers. She folds her arms really tight and sits very still. I found some really cute Texas Tech ones, but they were sold out when I wanted to buy them. So to show our Texas pride we got these cute little Houston Texans outfits. Even though we aren't Houston Texans fans at least it says Texans on the front.

We went to our ward's Trunk or Treat. Andrew and Ali weren't sure what to think about people just giving them candy. Andrew kept saying he wanted to "Go to church". I wish he would say that on Sunday. Andrew liked it when people let him choose the candy out of their bowls, but he got a little upset when they just gave him the candy. Ali was being the little mommy. She liked carrying her bag and Andrew's bag. Stephen wasn't able to go to Trunk or Treat because he had class. I was glad that the Mills came with me even though they had family events to go to. What great friends.

What's Up Cuz?

A few weeks ago I joined facebook, and I found out that my cousin Greg is going to BYU. We haven't seen each other in over 10 years so we decided to have a little family reunion. Greg came over for Sunday dinner, and we had my famous sour cream chicken enchiladas. It was a lot of fun getting to talk to him and find out what has been going on the last 10 years. We even figured out we have a few family traits in common like squinting our eyes in pictures. Luckily in this picture both of us kept our eyes open. The kids warmed up to Greg quickly. They had fun having someone else around. We are going to try to get together again soon.

Our First Snow

We got our first snow last Sunday, and it was a doosey. It snowed all day long. We got 8 inches. We had to put on the coats and go out and shovel the driveway. We also had to shovel the sidewalks or you can get a ticket if you don't. We took Andrew and Ali out to play in the snow while Stephen shoveled. They had a lot of fun. I don't think they knew what to think about it. Andrew kept saying "Snowman, Snowman". We didn't get to build one though. It was too cold. The last snow patch finally melted today. I am not looking forward to the rest of the winter. Hopefully only one more to go. It is so hard being trapped inside all winter. The kids love to play outside. We got more snow than anywhere else in the valley. Most places got about an inch.

Stale

I'm sure that somthing has happened in the Hampton home since Febuary. Tess lived in Redding right after high school to go to Shasta JC, where she got an associate's degree. Redding was fun. We didn't get to get out a whole lot because Alex hates getting in and out of the car. However, we spent a good chunk of the afternoon on the lawn near the Redding City Hall. The weather was great. They had a nicely landscaped area surrounded by several interesting pieces of artwork. Anyway, here are some of the pictures:

Alex's Blessing

We had Alex's blessing in Church this last week. Stephen, Ashley, Andrew, Alli, Dad and Mom joined us in Sacramento, along with a whole host of Tess's family. Alex was very good during the blessing, although I think he's getting back at us now that everyone is gone. Everyone got to taste a little of Sacramento, I think to rave reviews (Mom kept going on about Sacramento's sandwiches). We'll get to experience a little bit more of Northern California again in May for graduation.

Post-Christmas recap

It was awesome to be at home for Christmas with everyone! Of course we realize that Tess and I were of secondary interest. Everyone wanted to see our little guy (and who could blame them).

Everyone quickly realized that he is quite demanding in his needs. He does not put up with second rate service. He wants to be bounced on the ball and wants to be fed at specific times. Interestingly enough, even with all his demands, Alex was able to sleep through all of the Bourne Ultimatum. Not quite exciting enough for him.

He caught just a little bit of the cold that went around right as we were leaving, leading us to make an extra stop on the way home in the glorious city of Palmdale, CA, just north of LA. I think he got better just to not have Tess clean out his nose anymore.

All in all, it was a great Christmas and will be one to remember with everyone having been there together.

The Hampton's Christmas

The Hampton's reunited this Christmas in Ft. Stockton. We flew in on December 21 to El Paso, but we got there before our luggage. We had to wait 4 hours in El Paso for it to get there. The babies were exhausted by the end of the trip. Kyle and Tess drove in from California with their new baby Alex. We arrived the same day in Ft. Stockton. Everyone was there except for Brian, Bridget's husband. He is working over seas in Africa. We all missed him. The Hampton house was full with 4 grandkids. We had a lot of fun playing with new toys, and the adults had fun playing Guitar Hero. Jeff and Nicole and their 5 kids came to visit and we had a wonderful Christmas dinner. Thanks to all of Carol's hard work cooking. Darlene also came to visit for New Year's. We brought in the new year at the Ft. Stockton Civic center. We all went to the party after we put the kids to bed. This was mine, Stephen, and Bridget's first time to hire a sitter. We were all a little nervous, but it all worked out well. We had so much fun listening to an 80's cover band from Austin. This will probably be our last Christmas in Ft Stockton since Steve and Carol will be moving soon. So it was nice to have all the Hampton kids there.

Alex's Birthday

Well, the day finally came. Alexander Jonas Hampton was born on November 20, 2007 at 9:05 PM. He weighed 6 lbs, 9 oz and was 19.5 inches long. He and Tess came home on Thanksgiving Day. He's been a real good little boy. He caught onto nursing right away and generally is calm and pleasant. He likes for us to be close to him while he sleeps. We're just so happy to have him with us and to get to introduce him to all of you.

Alexander Jonas Hampton

Kyle called me around 11:00pm MST to tell us that Tess had just given birth to a healthy baby boy. I just got my grade for my Managerial Economics class, and the results are...drum roll please...I made an A! I am thrilled, but it wasn't just any plain ol' A. I also made the highest grade in the class on the final, AND I was ranked first in the class of 80. You must be very proud to know someone as brilliant as me. All kidding aside this is very encouraging because I have kicked around the idea of going on to get my PhD in Economics some day. I might just have what it takes. Thanks for indulging me on this. I was thinking about reprinting our Christmas cards to include this valuable information. I think that someone might shoot that idea down (Ashley, I'm looking your way), but you might hear about this from me again. We're into the last 3 weeks and so we meet with the doctor once a week. Every check-up has been good with both Tess and the baby being healthy. We're due on the 26th, so keep us in your prayers.

Any non-baby stuff has to do with school for me. We're also down to the last few weeks of school which means that finals are looming. This year has been different in a lot of ways in that I don't have a consistent group of friends in every class to study with. I study mostly on my own these days. So finals preparation is different for me in that I do so much of it on my own this time around. Luckily I've been through the drill a few times now and mostly know what to expect. Of course, with the baby due on the 26th and my first final on the 1st, who knows what could happen.

Also, on Halloween weekend we had Tess' nephew Lukas come spend the weekend with us. We had a lot of fun. Andrew got to go to Papa's barn and see the chickens. He really liked that. We mostly stayed around my parents house because my Mom is very tired a lot, and she is not feeling well. She will be going into the hospital next Monday to have more tests done. We got to see Bridget, Brian, and cute little Landon while we were there. We went to a pumpkin patch and we went on a hayride. The kids loved it. We are so glad they got to come from Austin to see us. This was the first time I got to see Landon, and the first time Bridget got to see Ali. We were glad to be there, but it was nice to come home to see Stephen. We missed him a lot. We were also suprised that he had painted the kitchen while we were gone.
We got some good news on Halloween. Andrew finally hit the 18 pound mark. We were so excited. He weighs 18 lbs. 9 oz. We are seeing a dietitian and she has us on a strict feeding schedule which seems to be working. We are also adding a lot of calories to his meals. Ali also took her first steps on Halloween. She has not been as interested in walking as she has been climbing up the stairs. She is so fast.
We are getting so excited about coming back to Texas for Christmas. We can't wait to see everyone.

We love you,
Ashley

This is Just a Test

I have been meaning to get this together for quite some time now. I'm not the best at keeping everyone posted on our comings and goings, Kim and Nicole make it seem so easy. I hope this is successful. The goal is to have regular posts from our family, to update anyone who is interested, on what we are up to. Now that we have kids you might even be interested. Any of you are welcome to post on here, but I specifically invite Kyle and Tess, Bridget and Brian (even though they aren't officially Hampton's), Leigh, and our Parents to try make regular contributions (updates and pictures). Ashley and I promise to do our best too. If all works out as planned this might end up being a very good thing. Let me know if you have any great ideas or questions. I hope to hear from you soon.
